Web Browser
Web Browser is Software which is used to view web site. It
is an interface between a user and the World Wide Web. A web browser can have a
graphical user interface, like internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google
Chrome, Opera or can be text based, e.g., Lynx. It can be installed on a single
computer. The user can navigate files, folders, and websites using hyperlinks. Multiple
tabs and windows of the same browser can be opened. The features and the
facilities offered by a web browser includes downloads, bookmarks, and password
management. It also offers functions, like spell checking, search engine toolbars,
tabbed browsing, advertisement filtering, HTML access keys and pop-up blocking.
The most popular web browsers are the following:-
1. GOOGLE CHROME: It is the most popular web browser. This was developed by Google and was released in 2008 for Microsoft windows. It was first released in beta version for Microsoft windows on 2 september 2008. In December 2009, chrome was the third most widely used browser. Google chrome aims to improve security, speed, and stability. During June 2013, according to statcounter, chrome overtook Internet Explorer for the first time in the US. As of August 2013,Chrome was used by 43% of users worldwide. Google chrome is available in 150 languages.
2. MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER (MSIE): It was developed by Microsoft in 1994 and releases in 1995. Presently, it is known as Windows Internet Explorer. The latest & eleventh version of Internet Explorer is IE 11, which is a free update. It was officially released on October 17, 2013 along with Window 8.1 and on November 7, 2013 for window 7. It is easy to use, safer, and compatible with most operating system. It has improved performance with faster page loading, faster interactivity, and faster JavaScript performance, while reducing CPU usage and improving battery life on mobile PCs.
3. MOZILLA FIREFOX: This is officially introduced in 2004, and is owned by Mozilla Corporation. It is the second most famous browser after Internet Explorer. It has undergone many version changes and updates, and it can be used with most operating system. It is popular because of its tabbed browsing, superior security features, and fast loading time. Session storage is also an important feature of Firefox, which allows the user to regain access to the open tabs after he/she has closed the browser window.
4. OPERA: This web browser was developed by opera Software in 1996. It is a popular browser in mobile devices. It is compatible with many operating systems, such as Solaris, Linux, Mac OSX, and Microsoft windows. It is easy to use and has common features, i.e., zoom and fit-to-width, content blocking, tabs and sessions download manager with Bit Torrent, and mouse gestures.
5. APPLE SAFARI: This was developed by Apple Inc. and included with Mac OS and iOS operating system.it was initially released as a public beta on 07 January 2003. A version of safari for the windows operating system was released on 11 June 2007 and it supported window XP, Service pack 2 or later, but it had been discontinued. The latest stable release of the browser is 5.1.7. The new advanced features in safari unfold new ways to find and enjoy the best of the web.
